General Update (New Release, Giveaways and MORE!)

Sorry I've been a bit sporadic updating recently...but it's time for some updates now! We'll start with a super exciting category for readers (and then move on to the exciting - and slightly nerve wracking - one for me!)

WIN a Kindle Fire!

Or other prizes! This is a giveaway that is running until next month, and there's also a rafflecopter for EXTRA chances to win!

Yes...another exciting one for readers! Not only is my prequel to the Alventia series, Betrayed, on instafreebie, but there is now the first 6 chapters of What Lies Beneath the Mask on there too!

If you have Kindle Unlimited, and love romance, then make sure you check out this promotion! All the books on there are KU Romances! And they look like great reads!

Or if you want some great Sci-Fi & Fantasy reads, then check out this instafreebie collection - though please be aware that this ends at the end of the month! And if you're more interested in other genres, then check out this Instafreebie Repository, where the books are collated by genre!

New Release!

Okay, so this is the exciting and nerve wracking one for me! The Dryad's Pawprint went live on Tuesday, and I'm still super worried about it...despite having some amazing reviews already! Most of them even say that they want to read more from the series...which is great considering that The Vixen's Bark is already written and up for pre-order! Plus, scenes from books 3 & 4 (whose titles I'm keeping quiet for now!) have already been written! All I'll say is that you do come across the characters from books 2 to 4 in The Dryad's Pawprint!

Author Interview

You can check out my author interview with Lieze Neven here! It was fun to do, as well as revealing more about me and my books!

Upcoming Books

So with February's release (The Vixen's Bark) all written and March's (By Any Other Name) also done and up for pre-order, my attention has turned to what may be my May release; Hidden Smoke. I've always intended to turn to fantasy in the end (in fact, I wrote a fantasy for NaNo 2016; Siren's Storm, but haven't released it because that one is involved in my game plan for 2018!) and Hidden Smoke is going to be my first release in the genre.

Its going to be standalone, sword & sorcery, with assassins, magic and Princes...basically its the kind of fantasy that I LOVE to read, and so have decided to, I may have impulse bought the cover now, so may need to stop procrastinating and finish writing it!

Naturally, I will also soon be working on my April release too, which I hope is going to be the third Paranormal Council book! There's always Rhodopis later in the year too (and while I have a cover for that one, I'm yet to actually start writing!) In my overall plan of the year (which is definitely subject to change!) Rhodopis is planned for September!

Other Plans

I'm kicking off a writing project that is just going to be for fun now too! So basically the idea is that a group of authors will all write a story based on the title "Hidden". They'll each publish it separately, but they'll be linked as a series! It's mostly about the fun and challenge of the writing, with the added bonus of easy cross promotion! You can check out the Kboards thread here!

I think that's everything...maybe that's everything? Ah well! If it isn't then I'll just have to write another post!

Happy reading!

Why I don't (and probably won't) use pen names

2017 is going to be my writing year. I decided that in December when I published my first self-published book, What Lies Beneath the Mask. It's also the year I'm going to get serious about it all, and so far I've finished one draft this year, and have planned out what may turn into a grueling publishing schedule.

But the thing is, I want my writing to work for me. I want to enjoy it, and I want it to sell, because at the end of the day, that is what it'll take to make this work.

Now there seems to be a lot of advise around the internet on what authors should or shouldn't do to make the most of it, and pen names really seem to be an interesting one, often dividing decisions.

So first thing's first; I don't use a pen name. And the main reason (other than the fact I have a comfortably common name when all is said and done) is that I can't be bothered with a pen name and all that comes with it. It'd mean a new twitter feed, facebook, blog, google+ etc, all on top of my own personal ones, and quite frankly who has time for that!

Thing is, theoretically, I probably should have one. Especially because of my planned publishing schedule. As it stands I have two fantasy fairy tale novellas (plus one short story), and one romance currently out there. Plus a fantasy flash fiction story and a space opera short story, in anthologies.

And the next three months, I have two Paranormal romances, and one paranormal/urban fantasy Shakespeare Retelling coming out.

Already that's three distinct genres, even if you group the paranormal, urban fantasy and fairy tales together. People have several different pen names for less, and that doesn't even cover the things that are on my to-write list (a sticky note on my computer!) To give you an idea, more PNR books are on there, as well as more space opera and (eventually) the next book in the Alventia series (fantasy fairy tale). I already have a cover for a historical (ish) book, and I have plans for time travel, dystopia and two different sword and sorcery fantasy books...don't think I've missed any there!

So with all that, if I'm generous in my groupings, I end up with 4 genres (Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance & Historical), except that most people would separate some of the others too. Now honestly, the idea of writing under two names makes me feel jittery! So four...well that's just not going to happen! Think of all the admin!

At the end of the day, I'm writing for me and not for anyone else, and it's not like I'm writing anything to be ashamed of (a few tame sex scenes really aren't much to worry about!) so why wouldn't I want it under my name. Which is basically the deal maker for me; I can look at my covers and see my name. I can prove to all those people who didn't think I'd get very far in life, that actually I can. And I'm going to do it in multiple genres, because that's what I want to write!

Plus, if by some miracle I do get a serious fan base, it'd be great for them to find new genres just from me!

Oh and if you'd like to see the cover I have for my historical book, it's here!

The Vixen's Bark Release Day Announcement!

I'm super excited to be able to announce the release date of The Vixen's Bark! This book is coming to you on 24th February, just one month after The Dryad's Pawprint! The two are set in the same universe, and have some overlapping characters, but they're also completely standalone, and follow different couples!

The Vixen's Bark follows lawyer and fox-shifter, Arabella Reed, and her love interest, Bjorn!

Preorder is available now!

So What's 2017 Going to Look Like?

Well hopefully not like my current review blog...I've ended up taking an unplanned hiatus over there, but I'll be back to that soon!

But 2017 for writing is going to be a fun (but somewhat hectic) one! Though fair warning, I'm 5 days in and have already changed my plan twice!

Definitely coming this year is The Dryad's Pawprint (24th January) and By Any Other Name (17th March), both of which are already available for pre-order (just click the links!) Want to see the covers?

The Dryad's Pawprint is a paranormal romance (designed by Ammonia Book Covers) and By Any Other Name is an Urban Fantasy/Paranormal retelling of Romeo and Juliet (designed by Swoonworthy Book Covers). In March, The Dryad's Pawprint will also be released as part of a paranormal/urban fantasy box set, which is super exciting!

And what about after that? Well I had planned to either be releasing a fantasy or dystopian series this year, though I think I've pretty much postponed those now. Instead, this year I'm going to be focusing on a paranormal romance series; Paranormal Council series, of which The Dryad's Pawprint is book 1! They'll all be stand alone though! I'm also hoping to release Time Keepers, a time travel adventure romance, and Rhodopis, an impulse project based on the oldest ever version of Cinderella

Of those books planned, two have covers! Rhodopis (also Swoonworthy Book Covers) and The Vixen's Bark (also Ammonia Book Covers), which is the second Paranormal Council book!

Naturally, there'll also be some short stories, and I'm still a part of the author vs author tournament, and I'm excited for the moment when we'll be able to share what we've been creating (and the moment I discover who my co-author actually is!)
